COGNAC
Cognac is 10 minutes by car, with supermarkets and all conveniences. The town has many boutiques,
restaurants and brasserie bars, a lively centre with terraced bars and a lovely old quarter with medieval castle and bridges crossing the Charente. There are stunning jardins publics
to visit, the famous covered market, and canoe and boat hire along the river. Every summer, Cognac hosts a world-famous
Blues festival as well as the festival of Cognac (the drink) in July.
The golf course is one of the finest in the area, and visitors are welcome throughout the year.
If you would like to visit a cognac distillery for a tour, then Rémy Martin is nearest on the outskirts of
Cognac, or Hennessy is in the heart of the old quarter of town. The other firms all offer
similar visits, in English, and usually include tastings. Courvoisier is a short drive away in Jarnac,
a beautiful town on the banks of the Charente.
