Quality accommodation in the heart of the Charente countryside

Cognac Retreat is a thoughtfully and sympathetically renovated ancient Charentais longère farmhouse providing top quality self-catering holiday accommodation. Situated in a tiny hamlet surrounded by fields of vines and sunflowers, it is only 10 minutes from the bustling centre of Cognac. The south-facing house is at the end of a quiet cul de sac opposite the laverie where the villagers would wash their clothes in days gone by.

You will be assured peace and tranquility, calm and space and stunning countryside in a very favourable climate whatever the season. Charente boasts the second highest sunshine in France (after the Côte d'Azur), and very low rainfall: long, hot summer days give way to mild autumns and bright, cold winters; spring begins early and garden lunches have been known in February and November.

With the coast only 45 minutes away, and miles of countryside to walk or cycle on your doorstep, summer holidays are quintessentially français. Cognac Retreat offers much more than a summer holiday rental location, however. The most stunning countryside is out of traditional peak holiday periods; June can be just as fine as August, as can September. In early October the Cognac grapes are ready for harvest, and the fields and cellars are hives of activity.
